A Personal Trainer for Your Aging Parent or Grandparent

You've noticed it β€” they're a little less steady, a little slower on the stairs, gripping the counter. You want to help without hovering. I'm Zeuse Valentine, and I bring gentle, in-home strength and balance training to older adults across Clark County, WA β€” the kind that protects independence and prevents falls. Family is welcome on the very first call.

This isn't about fitness. It's about staying independent.

Falls are the leading cause of injury for adults over 65, and one serious fall can change everything β€” a hospital stay, a loss of confidence, a move out of the home they love. The best-proven protection isn't bubble wrap. It's strength and balance training, scaled patiently to where they are. Even in their 80s and 90s, the body still responds. It is genuinely never too late to get stronger.

Why Families Choose Zeuse

Care You Can Put a Loved One's Name Behind

Choosing someone to work with your parent is a matter of trust. Here's what that trust is built on.

πŸŽ“ Doctoral-level education B.S. in Kinesiology and a Doctor of Physical Therapy student β€” I program intelligently around arthritis, replacements, heart conditions, and balance issues, coordinating with their providers when needed.
❀️ I do this for my own family I'm the caregiver and coach for my 87-year-old grandfather. I know the patience, dignity, and gentleness this takes β€” because I practice it at home.
🏑 In the safety of home No intimidating gym, no driving, no crowd. Training happens in their living room with support always within reach β€” far safer and far less stressful for an older adult.
🀝 The whole family, in the loop You're welcome on the first call and in the room. I keep you updated, and I'll always be honest about what will and won't help.

How It Works

Gentle From the Very First Minute

1
A relaxed first call β€” family welcome

We talk about your parent's health, history, and what worries you. No pressure, no jargon. You can be on the call or in the room.

2
A gentle in-home assessment

I meet them where they're comfortable, see how they move, and build a patient plan around their body and their goals β€” often as simple as standing up more easily and walking with confidence.

3
Steady, encouraging sessions

Short, safe sessions 1–5Γ— a week in their home. I bring the equipment. You get progress updates and peace of mind.

Common Worries

"But My Parent Is…" β€” I Hear These a Lot

"…too old or too frail"

A landmark study saw frail nursing-home residents averaging around 90 make real strength gains in weeks. Frailty is a reason to start carefully β€” not a reason to skip it.

"…uses a cane or walker"

Perfect candidate. We train seated, at the counter, and with support β€” building the exact strength that makes an aid feel less necessary over time.

"…resistant to the idea"

Very common. I lead with dignity and patience, start absurdly small, and let the wins do the convincing. No drill-sergeant energy β€” ever.

"…and I live out of town"

You can set everything up from anywhere and stay updated remotely. I can also coach them live online if that fits better.

Questions Families Ask

Straight Answers

Can I hire you for my parent even if they're hesitant?

Yes, and it's one of the most common ways families start. I keep the first session gentle and pressure-free, meet your parent with respect, and let small early wins build their buy-in. You're welcome to be there.

Where in Clark County do you work with seniors?

In their home, anywhere in Clark County β€” Vancouver, Battle Ground, Camas, Washougal, Ridgefield, Salmon Creek, Hazel Dell, and the surrounding communities.

My parent has arthritis / a replacement / a heart condition. Is training safe?

These are reasons to train smart, not to avoid it. Doctoral-level PT education means the program is built around their conditions, and I coordinate with their healthcare providers when appropriate. This is educational fitness coaching, not medical treatment.

How much does it cost, and how often would they train?

Senior focus sessions are $45 for 30 minutes, typically 1–5Γ— per week depending on their goals, with discounts on packs of 8 or more. The first consultation is free. Full details on the pricing page.

Can we start with the family and not just my parent alone?

Absolutely β€” I encourage it. Family involvement makes older adults feel safer and more consistent. Join the first call, be in the room, and stay as involved as you'd like.
